PG Department of Community Medicine
The Department of Community Medicine, Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital
( The first private sector medical college in Bhubaneswar, Odisha)was established
since the inception of the college& started functioning for under graduate
teaching in July, 2005 with 100 students intake capacity and for post graduate
training from 2012.(with 6 nos. of seats per year) with fully qualified and
experienced teaching faculty & staff from the very beginning.
The department is engaged in teaching & training of undergraduates, and research
in various aspects of public health. Besides this, students of MHA, Nursing
(MSc., BSc. & GNM) and BDS are undergoing training in different health centres of
this department.
Separate Rural and Urban Health Training Centers have been established so as to
impart field-practice training to medical students and helping the needy people
nearby and those in remote areas. The RHTC is at Sundarapada village of Khurdha
district and the UHTC is at IRC village (Salia Sahi Slum) in Bhubaneswar.
The department is fully equipped with a biostatistical unit, Laboratory,
demonstration room, Seminar room, well informative museum,departmental library,
computer with internet facility, public health lab.
Departmental Library
The library is maintained with latest editions of books of Community Medicine and allied subjects, it contains also latest journals, Annual reports, publications of Department of Health Services and various publications of WHO and other national and international organizations.
Museum
A big hall equipped with sufficient models, specimens and charts on relevant subjects of Community Medicine and Public health importance.
Computer Room
Teaching and training to undergraduate MBBS Students& PG trainees on computer software program of EPI info and SPSS.
Laboratory
The department has fully equipped public health laboratory including entomology laboratory for teaching and training of students.
Seminar Room
The department has a seminar hall well equipped with LCD projector, screen along with sound system.
Demonstration Room
The department has two big demonstration rooms equipped with Audio-visual aids, LCD, Overhead projector and slide projector.
UNDERGRADUATE TRAINING
- Undergraduate students are trained in community medicine with an optima blend of faculty& Didactic lectures.
- Multidisciplinary teaching in association with departments of Paediatrcs, O&G, Pulmonary TB&Chest,Oncology and Medicine on family welfare, reproductive & child health(RCH),Communicable&non-communicable diseases.
- Problem based learning in Epidemiological Exercises,Nutrition & Health statistics.
- Demonstrations on various spotters in nutrition ,immunizing agents, contraceptives,entomology,insecticides,disinfectantscommunity health utilities& protective devices.
- Seminars & systematized tutorials & structured format.
- Regular field training in UHTC & RHTC.
- Field visits to PHC, CHC ,ICDS, Water works, Sewage Treatment plant, OMFED plant, Regional vaccine store(WIC & WIF).
